Many people loathe February’s dark nights and frosty mornings but for us Danes, it signals the start of something exciting. We love to innovate, to find new ways of doing things and to embrace progressiveness, so the start of a new year offers the chance to discover all the exciting new artists poised for greatness in 2018. With all of them set to tour over the coming months, it’s also the perfect excuse to indulge our passion for live events as we plan to check out as many hotly tipped names possible at our nearest O2 Academy before inevitable superstardom beckons. These are the names we reckon will be unmissable...

Tom Walker

Originally from Glasgow and now based in Manchester, Tom Walker’s soulful vocals have already earned him support slots with The Script, George Ezra and Jake Bugg. He has since worked with Naughty Boy and earned a coveted spot on the BBC Music Sound of 2018 poll. With his UK dates selling out fast, don’t miss the chance to see him for yourself this year.

Calum Scott

Set to play his first UK headline show at London’s KOKO in March, Calum Scott will be hitting the road in support of his hotly anticipated debut album ‘Only Human’. Fast making a name for himself on the other side of the Atlantic too, Hull’s very own Calum now has world domination firmly in his sights.

Will Varley

Currently playing his biggest ever UK tour, folk hero Will Varley looks poised to make his mark on the mainstream this year with his latest release ‘Spirit of Minnie’. Pairing the personal with the distinctly political, the album sees Will record with a full backing band for the first time and has wowed critics across the board.

Described by NME as making “pensive psychedelia from a seedy speakeasy”, Jerkcurb is South London’s Jacob Read who creates darkly, immersive ballads, surreal visuals and mysterious lyrics. Be sure to catch one of his compelling live shows this year to see exactly why he’s fast attracting a cult-like following.

Big Shaq

He’s the man behind last year’s viral hit ‘Man’s Not Hot’ and 2018 will see Big Shaq take grime global. The creation of comedian Michael Dapaah, Big Shaq already counts the likes of Drake and Stormzy as fans and is certain to become a chart fixture this year as hip hop’s hottest new name to know.
